Wedding rings are very special pieces of jewelry that will be cherished for years to come. A couple has just made one of the most important decisions of their lives, by deciding to get married, so they will understandably want to commemorate it, as most people do, by selecting rings for the two of them. The couple will want these rings to be perfect - not too expensive, yet not cheap; not too gaudy or ostentatious, yet not too underwhelming (although they might actually be most drawn to plain gold wedding bands). They want the rings to be a great fit, comfortable to wear, and made of high quality materials. Wedding Rings come in a variety of styles. A great many rings are made in the usual style of a plain yellow gold band. Some rings for women are made to fit snugly with their engagement rings; rings of this sort are called guards, wraps, jackets or enhancers. They are designed to fit around the engagement ring, for the purposes of complimenting and enhancing the engagement ring. Because of the contoured design of the ring guard, it is sometimes preferred and considered easier to wear a set of this jacketed design, than two rings with plain, straight bands that are prone to slide around on the finger while being worn. Couples acquire their wedding rings in a number of different ways. Most couples will go to a jeweler and work with a jewelry expert to choose their rings. The jeweler may be an independently owned business, or it may be a part of a nationwide chain. Other couples will go to the jewelry counter of a large department store to make their purchases. Yet others will purchase their rings through warehouse clubs. There are even those who will purchase theirs through auctions, or pawn shops, or even from online jewelers. Some are inherited from family members. For example, a woman’s ring might be an heirloom from a deceased parent, grandparent, or even great-grandparent. However a couple may acquire their bands, they will want to make certain of a few things. First of all, if they cannot consult a jewelry expert during the selection process, they will want to make a point of finding one, preferably before purchasing the rings, to ensure the authenticity of the metal and gems in the rings. It would be devastating to purchase rings believed to be, say, gold with diamonds, only to later find out that the rings have been made from imitation materials. Second, the couple will want to ensure that they have a way of maintaining their rings. The rings, especially those with gems, will need to be cleaned periodically, and the settings checked to ensure that the gems are not loose and will not fall out of the settings. Also, the couple will want to make sure that, should their fingers get larger or smaller, they can always have the rings adjusted. Obviously, purchasing wedding rings through a jeweler is the best and safest way to ensure that they have flexibility and ease of mind, but every couple must do what works best for them, when purchasing their rings.
